Declare December 31 ‘Democracy Destruction Day’ to celebrate your 1983 coup' - PDP Senator, Enyinnaya Abaribe tells Buhari

Enyinnaya Abaribe, a PDP senator from Abia State has asked President Buhari to declare December 31 as Democracy Destruction Day to mark the coup he led to end Nigeria’s Second Republic in 1983.  

Buhari on December 31, 1983 led by a group of senior army officers to overthrow the democratically elected government of President Shehu Shagari.

Years after, President Buhari on June 6, 2018 directed that effective 2019, Nigeria’s Democracy Day, marked every May 29 for the past 18 years, be shifted to June 12 to honour Moshood Abiola, the winner of the 1993 presidential election. Abiola was never sworn in as president. He was instead detained by the military and died in prison five years later.  

Osinbajo's aide reacts to reports that the VP's chopper’s averted tragedy by making an emergency landing

There are reports that the chopper that was to convey Vice-President Yemi Osibanjo from the Nigeria Customs Command and Staff College, Gwagwalada in Abuja today was forced to land, few seconds after take off.

According to the reports, while taking off,  the chopper could not ascend beyond the tree level, before it emitted thick smoke and landed on the same spots few seconds after take off.

Reacting to the news, Osinbajo's media aide, Laolu Akande tweeted,

'VP Osinbajo attended the graduation ceremony of Nigeria Customs Senior Course in Gwagwalada today. On his way back it was decided, for technical reasons, not to fly the chopper that had brought him to the venue. He drove back to the Presidential Villa & continued his schedule'.

Floyd Mayweather heads the world’s highest-paid athletes for the fourth time in seven years, thanks to a $275 million payday for his August boxing match against UFC star Conor McGregor. The two fighters defied naysayers who said the match would never take place and laughed all the way to the bank, with career-high paydays. McGregor’s take: an estimated $85 million, more than five times his previous biggest check.

Fans couldn’t resist tuning in to see if the brash McGregor could take away Mayweather’s beloved ‘0.’ The two fighters produced an entertaining 10-round battle, and viewers around the globe watched Mayweather improve to a record of 50-0 for his career. The 4.3 million pay-per-view buyers helped the fight generate more than $550 million in total revenue.

N2.9bn Fraud: Court adjourns ex-Adamawa governor, Fintiri’s trial to October 4th

Justice A. R. Mohammed of the Federal High Court sitting in Maitama, Abuja, has adjourned the trial of a former governor of Adamawa State, Ahmadu Umaru also known as Rt. Hon. Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri and one other, charged with N2.9billion fraud to October 4, 2018.

The adjournment was sequel to an application by Fintiri’s counsel, Mahmud Abubakar Magaji, SAN, seeking the release of the international passport of the first defendant to enable him to travel to Germany for follow-up on his medical treatment.

Fintiri, a former lawmaker, who also served briefly as the Acting Governor of Adamawa State, is being prosecuted on a 5-count charge of bribery and money laundering alongside Mayim Construction and Properties Limited, by EFCC.

The senate today deliberated on President Buhari's decision to declare June 12th as Nigeria's new 'Democracy Day'.

During the discussion, Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu said, 'the Constitution needs to be amended if June 12th is declared as Democracy day'.

Senate President, Bukola Saraki however said, 'we recognize the fact that the recognition of Chief MKO Abiola and his contributions have been long overdue. We must recognize this good intention.There might be imperfections in how it was implemented, but let us take the good intention behind all of this'.

Fake female blind beggar and her son caught in Lagos (Videos)

 A woman who pretends to be blind while roaming the street of Lagos begging people for money has been caught.

The woman who identified herself as Ope Azeez from Ede, Osun State was caught on Monday with her son Olalekan Sodiq, who helps her around whenever she's out begging for money. 

According to the Facebook user, Balogun Lolly Atinuke, who share story and videos online, the woman was caught red-handed by Baale of Ita Oluwo at Ita Oluwo bus-stop. 

He said a phone, torchlight and some huge amount of money were discovered from the woman while she was being confronted by a mob.

Family of five die mysteriously after moving into new house in Ogun

A family of five including father, mother, three children and an apprentice were found dead in a new building they all just moved into along Shakora, Aiyepe road in Sagamu area of Ogun State today June 7th. 

According to residents, the victims met their untimely death the first night they all slept in the building. The stench from the compound forced neighbors to break into it and found their lifeless bodies this morning.

While the father’s body was discovered in front of a chair, the youngest child’s body was seen in front of a plate of food.

The EFCC, Maiduguri Zonal Office, on Wednesday, June 6, 2018 arraigned one Babakura Mustapha before Justice Aisha Kumaliya of the Borno State High Court sitting in Maiduguri, on a two-count charge bordering on impersonation and obtaining by false pretence.

Mustapha allegedly posed as a staff of the EFCC with the name “Mr. Kola” and in the assumed capacity presented himself to one Mamman Bukar as the operative handling ‘a case’ purportedly against him (Bukar).

Woman calls out store after she allegedly found hand glove in chicken pie she bought from them in Lagos

A woman has taken to Twitter to reveal that she bought chicken pie from a retail store in Lagos only to find a hand glove in it.

Man wrongly imprisoned for 25 years gets $10million as compensation

A Philadelphian man who was jailed for 25 years for a rape and murder he didn’t commit will be paid $10million as compensation.

In 1991, Anthony Wright was sentenced to life in prison in the USA for the killing of his neighbor, Louise Talley, 77. Louise was raped and repeatedly stabbed to death at her home and Anthony was indicted in the murder. 

But the conviction was reversed in 2014 after DNA evidence pointed to a former crack addict who died in a South Carolina prison.

Super Eagles FIFA ranking drops ahead of 2018 World Cup

The Super Eagles of Nigeria have dropped a point from last month’s 47th position to 48 place in the world, and from sixth to seventh in the continent, in the latest FIFA rankings.  

The statement on FIFA’s website today said the recent flurry of pre-FIFA World Cup friendlies left its mark on the latest rankings.

While the top three positions are unchanged as Germany, Brazil and Belguim sit respectively, Russia-bound duo of Poland and Uruguay have succeeded in making strides within the top 20.

Veteran Nigerian rapper, Eedris Abdulkareem has just dropped a new song titled 'Letter To Obasanjo' where he called out the former president saying he's the 'problem of Nigeria'.    

In the song produced by Mr Lekki, Eedris accused Obasanjo of corruption and killing the people of Odi.

Obasanjo and Eedris first had their face off in 2004 when the rapper released a song titled 'Nigeria Jaga Jaga'. 

Eedris has however vowed to release Nigeria Jaga Jaga (Part 2) in the coming weeks.

Newborn baby girl thought to have died at birth survives being buried alive for 8-hours (Photos/Video)

This is the miraculous story of a newborn baby girl who was wrongly thought to have died at birth but was dug out of a shallow grave after being buried alive for eight hours in Brazil.

The infant child was born around midday to a 15-year-old Brazilian indigenous Indian girl.  The young mother said she was alone in the bathroom when her contractions started.

According to her, the little girl arrived quickly and fell onto the bathroom floor hitting her head and suffering two cranial fractures.

Teacher who stabbed husband to death in Ikorodu remanded in Kirikiri prison

An Ebute Meta Chief Magistrate court has ordered 24-year-old teacher, Olamide Akinbobola, who stabbed her husband, 28-year-old Dare Akinbobola, to death in Ikorodu area of Lagos State on May 30th, be remanded in Kirikiri Prison pending receiving an advice from the State Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

At the hearing of the case today, the prosecutor, Sgt. Kehinde Omisakin told the Chief Magistrate, Mrs. O.A. Komolafe, that Olamide committed the offence on May 30th at No. 1, Olupebi Abijo St., Gbaga, off Ijede Road, Ikorodu.
