Unknown gunmen have reportedly kidnapped the younger sister to wife of Delta State Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa, in Asaba, the state capital.  

Elizabeth, younger sister to Dame Edith, was allegedly accosted by a gang of young men at Temple Clinic junction, along Awai road near Government House on Monday night in Asaba and taken away in a waiting vehicle.  The victim, who is the immediate younger sister of Okowa’s wife, was said to be driving a black SUV when the gang abducted her. 

According to a report by Punchng, a source at the Government House in Asaba, who declined to be named, said the hoodlums were armed with dangerous weapons during the operation.

The acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Ibrahim Magu, has disclosed that the agency is collating comprehensive data on the Nigerians indicted in the recently busted money laundering and cyber crime offences in the United States.

80 suspects, most of whom were Nigerians, were allegedly involved in the crimes investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, FBI, in the U.S.

Magu who spoke through the Head of the Ibadan zonal office, Friday Ebelo, during a press conference in Ibadan, Oyo State, said the massive data collection was part of the collaborative activities between the EFCC and FBI to ensure that criminal elements are exposed and made to pay for their crimes.

Journalists in attendance at the event were held spellbound when Ebelo took them through the intricate connections between the local Yahoo Boys and their offshore criminal collaborators.

According to him, the essence the data mining exercise was to established any form of relationship the indicted individuals may have with Nigeria-based suspects, and how this could help in furthering the fight against economic and financial crimes in the country.

A Bayelsa State High Court sitting in Yenagoa has granted an interim order restraining the All Progressives Congress from adopting direct primary for the rescheduled August 31st governorship primary.  

Justice E. G. Omukoro granted the order upon hearing a motion ex parte. The applicants are Japan Christopher, Evinson Oyindeyinfa, Oddu Ovinmiebi and Obiriki Isaiah. They had sued for themselves and also on behalf of concerned members of APC in Bayelsa.

President Buhari has attributed the partial closure of Nigeria’s border with Benin
Republic to the massive smuggling activities, especially of rice.

The Nigerian leader gave the reason during the seventh Tokyo International Conference for African Development (TICAD7), in Yokohama, Japan on Wednesday.

President Buhari, who expressed great concern over the smuggling of rice, said it threatened the self-sufficiency already attained due to his administration’s agricultural policies.

According to him, “Now that our people in the rural areas are going back to their farms, and the country has saved huge sums of money which would otherwise have been expended on importing rice using our scarce foreign reserves, we cannot allow smuggling of the product at such alarming proportions to continue.”

Barely 24 hours after the US authorities increased the cost of visa application for Nigerians under a tit for tat policy, FG has announced a reduction in the amount payable by citizens of the U.S seeking Nigerian visas.

The Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, said the FG has approved a reduction in visa charges payable by United States citizens from $180 to $150.

In a statement, the US consulate in Nigeria had said America was “reciprocating” the extra visa fee the Nigerian government charges its citizens. The consulate had explained that the extra cost would be applicable to only those whose visa requests were granted.

Members of the Indigenious People of Biafra IPOB have been warned against carrying out their planned attack on President Buhari in Japan, as such an action will cause the Igbo race to be labelled a terrorist group worldwide.

This warning is coming from the Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide. In a statement released yesterday August 26th, Mazi Okechukwu isiguzoro who is the President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide, described the directive issued by IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu, for its members in Japan to arrest and disgrace President Buhari during his visit to the Asian country, as a sensless plot as it will endanger the lives and properties of all Igbos residing in all the 19 Northern states.

Isiguzoro added that Kanu and other IPOB members championing the call for this attack have no investment in the South East or anywhere in Nigeria.
