Dino Melaye to be arraigned on May 10 – Nigerian Police

The Nigeria Police Force says it would arraign Senator Dino Melaye and the four suspects rearrested for alleged conspiracy and unlawful possession of prohibited firearms at the Federal High Court in Lokoja, Kogi on May 10.  

The suspects are: Kabiru Seidu, 31, alias Osama, Nuhu Salisu, 25, alias small, Musa Mohammed, 27, alias Iko and Emmanuel Audu, 26.  

The Force Spokesman, ACP Jimoh Moshood, who made the disclosure while briefing newsmen on the arrest of four of the six suspects today in Abuja, said two of the suspects were still at large. Moshood said that Seidu and Salisu who were principal suspects were rearrested in Tafa Balewa Local Government Area of Bauchi State and Ganaja Village, Lokoja, Kogi.  

Ebonyi State Governor David Umahi sacks SSG, appoints new one

Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi state on Monday, sacked Prof Bernard Odoh as the Secretary to the State Government and appointed Dr. Hygenus Nwokwu as his replacement.

Announcing the sack in the government House, Abakaliki during a massive solidarity rally by the people of Ezza Ezekuna, the Governor said he has invalidated the resignation letter earlier submitted by the sacked SSG because the letter was written on a public holiday and therefore did not hold any valid meaning.

The Nigeria Police Force today paraded the re-arrested suspected assassins they linked to embattled Senator Dino Melaye. 

Recall that the two suspects, Kabiru Saidu aka Osama (31), Nuhu Salisu aka Small (25) and four others escaped from police custody last week March 28th. They were re-arrested after an intense search for them by the police.

13-year-old son of a policeman hangs himself in Gombe State

The Gombe State Police command says a 13-year-old son of a policeman is suspected to have hanged himself today.

DSP Mary Malum, the Police Public Relations Officer in Gombe State, said the boy, identified as Muhammadu Al-amin, was found hanging in his room. Malum said that about 4 p.m. on Monday, the father, Insp. Abdu Manu attached to Criminal Investigation Bureau of Pantami Division, received a phone call from his wife that their 13-year-old son had been found dead in his room.

'Spying' on your spouse's phone is now a crime in Saudi Arabia with offenders facing a £95,000 fine and a year in jail

Saudi Arabia has announced that 'spying' on your spouse's phone is now a criminal offence potentially punishable by a year in jail and a hefty fine.

'Married individuals planning to spy on their spouse in Saudi Arabia will need to think twice, because such an activity could potentially attract a fine of 500,000 riyals (N47m), along with a prison term for a year,' read a statement released by Saudi Arabia's information ministry.

The provision, part of a new anti-cyber crime law which came into force last week, is meant to 'protect morals of individuals and society and protect privacy', the ministry said. The move comes amid a 'steady increase in cybercrimes such as blackmail, embezzlement and defamation'.

According to Facebook user, Cecilia Dikibo, the elderly man pictured above was apprehended after he raped a 10 year old girl in Ahoda, a community in Rivers state. The accused is said to be the chairman of the Parents Teachers Association of the Girls School, Ahoada.

The severed head of an unidentified man was discovered in a bush close to a junction in Uzere Community, Isoko South area of Delta State in the early hours of Monday.

Residents, who thronged the scene, could not identify the deceased because there was no body.

Spokesperson for the Delta State Police Command, Andrew Aniamaka, who confirmed the incident said the head was deposited in the Oleh Central Hospital morgue.

Investigation into the matter has commenced,  he added.

A 93-year-old Nigerian woman who has Sickle Cell anaemia has granted an interview in which she spoke about her life, living with sickle cell, marriage, childbirth and surviving against the odds.

Alhaja Ashiata Abike Onikoyi nee Laguda will be 94 years old this October and she lives a full life though she has the dreaded SS genotype. Alhaja Laguda, as she is popularly called, said during an interview with The Nation, that she stopped having Sickle Cell attacks since she turned 40, though her genotype remains same.

Meek Mill judge denies request to reconsider his sentence

The Philadelphia judge who sentenced Meek Mill to 2-4 years in state prison for violating probation from his 2009 drug and weapons case in November 2017, has denied his appeal to be released from prison on bail. 

According to court documents obtained by the New York Daily News, Judge Genece Brinkley issued the decision after refusing to recuse herself from the rapper's case.

“Defendant received proper notice of all alleged probation violations in advance of his hearing,” Brinkley wrote. “The sentence imposed was not manifestly excessive and this Court stated sufficient reasons on the record to support a state sentence of 2 to 4 years.”

Ebonyi State SSG, Bernard Odoh resigns because the governor never had confidence in him

The Secretary to Ebonyi state government (SSG), Prof. Bernard Odoh, has resigned his appointment.

His notice of resignation was contained in a three-page letter he wrote to governor David Umahi dated April 2, 2018. He gave several reasons for resigning, part of which was that despite his sincere effort in working to move the government and the state forward, Umahi never had trust nor confidence in him.

Nigeria: 17-year-old girl commits suicide in Jigawa State by drinking insecticide known as “Piyapiya”

Jigawa State Police command said in a statement that a 17-year-old girl committed suicide by consuming insecticide popularly known as “Piyapiya”.

The Command spokesman, SP Abdu Jinjiri, told the News Agency of Nigeria in Dutse that the incident happened in Birnin Kudu Local Government Area of the state.

“Information reached us that Gambo Jibrin, aged 17 of Gambara Village was brought to the General Hospital, Birnin Kudu unconsciously after she was suspected to have drank insecticide substance. Immediately the information was received, detectives were drafted to the hospital to confirm the information. Unfortunately, the detectives met the victim dead already,” Jinjiri said.

Lagos Police arrest notorious robber who disguises as drink seller to rob motorists in traffic

Notorious robber, Kayode Oluwole who specialises in robbing motorists held up in traffic in the Oshodi area of the state has been arrested.  

It was gathered that the 27-year-old often disguised as a drink seller to attack unsuspecting motorists who wanted to patronise him. The Chairman of the Lagos State Task Force on Environment and Special Offences (Enforcement), SP Olayinka Egbeyemi, who released the statement, said whenever Oluwole failed, he resorted to force, using a hammer to break car glasses and robbing owners of their phones and other valuables.
