Governor Ambode announces plan to increase Lagos State social media presence

The Lagos State government has unfolded plans to occupy social media with increased content on governments’ policies and programmes through its well-positioned social media platforms by engaging the online audience in advocacy and public enlightenment.  

The State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Kehinde Bamigbetan, who stated this on Monday while kick-starting the annual Ministerial Press Briefing of the State government held at Bagauda Kaltho Press Centre, Alausa, also said that with increased uploading of content on its social media, followership is expected to rise to two million by the end of this year.  

The Commissioner announced the general increase in followership on all government social media platforms, attributing the increase to improved uploading of content in terms of short videos, infographics, Facebook and Instagram live videos. According to him, the LASG Facebook account now has over 296,000 followers, making an increment of 14% from the initial 259,147 followers as at April 2017; the total number of posts on the Instagram platform is now 2,127 with a total of 16,500 followers resulting in over 1,000% increment from the initial 857 Followers as at same period last year while the twitter account now has over 173,264 followers resulting in 47% increment from the initial 117,782 followers as at April 2017.  

Bamigbetan further disclosed that several reforms are going on to reposition the State-owned media houses to make them rank among equals.  The Commissioner told journalists that the Ambode administration has intervened strategically by fast-tracking the acquisition of the state-of-the-art equipment for Lagos Television, Radio Lagos and Eko FM to enable the stations to compete favourably in the industry and boost revenue generation.  He said: “Considering the need to propagate the perspective and activities of the State government for public enlightenment and patronage of citizens, LTV, which historically is the first State television station in Nigeria, has received tremendous public expenditure to be more competitive and efficient.”    

He reiterated that a new digital studio and new transmitters to improve the signal strength, quality and outreach were among equipment installed at the Lagos State Radio Service while the guest rooms, corridors, reception area and the entire ground floor were renovated as part of on-going efforts to make the work atmosphere more conducive and comfortable.      Bamigbetan further disclosed that Lagos State Printing Corporation (LSPC) is currently in a new phase of development following the installation of the newly purchased digital machine, adding that the Ambode administration is determined to ensure that the Corporation does not return to the unprofitable era.

The Nigerian Army has denied media reports that its officers in Taraba state beat a 27 year old man, Yusuf Haruna, to death in Mbanga,Sardauna local government area of the state recently. Raliat was beheaded and her hands cut off by her boyfriend, Oluwatobiloba Ipese, the senior pastor of Holy Gathering Evangelical Church of God, Papalanto and his accomplice, Daniel Sopeju, a prophet in a white garment church. The clergyman then buried her remains inside his church.

Mom charged with attempting to cut off her autistic son's head with a saw because he was playing instead of doing homework after school

A mother, from Maryland, USA, is accused of attempting to cut off the head of her autistic 11-year-old son. 

Kristina Petrie, 46, of Aspen Hill, Maryland, was charged with attempted first-degree murder and first- and second-degree child abuse after her son told police that she held a bow saw against his neck and cut him with it.

On March 12, 2018, after the boy arrived home from school, he told police that he entered his home and saw his brother crying on the couch. He said his mother, Kristina, was crying and laughing. He said he then went upstairs to play a game. At this point, his mother, holding a bow saw, approached him and asked why he wasn't doing his homework yet. The boy said that he would start his homework at 4.45pm. But Kristina raised the bow saw and blocked him from leaving the room. He said he wound up in a kneeling position and Kristina "jammed" the bow saw against his neck, dragging it back and forth several times.

19-year-old hair stylist assaulted her neighbour by cutting her nose with a razor blade in Lagos

Modupe Gbadamosi, a 19-year-old hair stylist who allegedly assaulted her neighbour by cutting her on the nose with a razor blade has been arraigned before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court.  

The accused, who lives at No. 13 Adebompe Adelani St., Ayobo – Ipaja, Lagos, is facing a charge of assault. According to the Prosecutor, Sgt. Hafsat Ajibode, the accused committed the offence on March 24 at 8.30am at Adelani Street, Off Ayetoro Road, Ayobo, a Lagos suburb.

Rapper, Fabolous has officially been charged following allegations that he assaulted his longtime girlfriend, Love and Hip Hop" star, Emily Bustamante, causing her to lose two front teeth.

Bossip confirmed that the Brooklyn rapper is now facing one count of aggravated assault in the third degree as well as one count of making terroristic threats, also in the third degree.

In the rapper's complaint which was obtained by BOSSIP, Emily Bustamante said her sons’ father committed domestic violence against her, punching her in the head seven times, “causing severe damage to her two front teeth,” which later had to be medically removed.

Former Chelsea and Man United legend, Ray Wilkins dies after suffering a heart attack at 61

English football legend Ray Wilkins has died in the hospital at the age of 61.  The former Chelsea coach was placed in an induced coma after suffering a cardiac arrest at his home in Cobham, Surrey, last week.

Wilkins, who enjoyed spells as a player at Chelsea, Manchester United and AC Milan, passed away today at St George's Hospital in London. He had battled poor health including ulcerative colitis over the last few years, but got the all-clear after a double heart bypass operation last July.

Recall that last month, President Buhari said the tenure elongation for the party's NEC officials will not continue because it is against the party's constitution.

A Texas teenager from Lamar High School in the Houston Independent School District, was accepted by all 20 of the colleges and universities he applied to.

17-year-old Micheal Brown from Houston’s Third Ward, reportedly applied to 20 colleges and universities, including four Ivy League schools, and was accepted by all of the institutions after he had received an acceptance letter from Stanford University in December.

 Ace comedian Alibaba shared a post saying he was giving out 25 million Naira to people with great business ideas, courtesy of Aliko Dangote. He has now revealed it wasn't real. It was an experiment of sorts and the result of the experiment, which he has shared, is quite enlightening.

Before writing that he was giving out 25 million Naira with help from Dangote, Alibaba shared a post where he said he wanted to teach young people some of the things the late Pa Steve Rhodes taught him which helped him get ahead in life, but only 7 people commented to indicate their interest.

However, when he shared that he was giving out money to businesses, the post got lots of comments. He also got DMs from people asking for the money. But what's surprising is that most of them had no business ideas and were asking for the money to do things like open a church and sort out their families.

From what he learnt from his little experiment, Alibaba concluded that "few want to put in the work".

Former Abia state governor, Orji Uzor Kalu, has described the critics of president Buhari's administration as '' yesterday's lawless and reckless leaders of Nigeria'' .

In an apparent reaction to the recent attack from ex-pesident Olusegun Obasanjo on the Buhari-led administration, Kalu said the leaders that are criticising Buhari now never obeyed the laws of the land when they were in power.

He said the leaders who now write letters and speak out in condemnation, never responded or acted on the letters that were written to them when they were in office.

'' Why Dino Melaye is not on our watch list yet'' INTERPOL

The International police organisation, INTERPOL, has given reasons why Senator Dino Melaye is not yet on its watch list.  INTERPOL says it does not engage in politically-motivated operations.

Recall that on March 28th, the Kogi state police command declared Melaye wanted and alerted INTERPOL, shortly after six criminal suspects escaped from police custody. Two of the suspects are assassins that are allegedly being funded by the embattle senator.

The police command said INTERPOL had been alerted to place Melaye and other suspects, including Mohammed Audu, son of late Kogi politician Abubakar Audu, on its watch list.
