Nigeria: Gunmen abduct wife, six children of Zamfara commissioner

The wife and six children of Zamfara State commissioner for youth, sports and skills acquisition, Abdullahi Gurbin Bore, were abducted in the early hours of today Tuesday May 22nd. The gunmen according to eyewitnesses, stormed the home of the government official, shooting sporadically as they forced the woman and the six children into a waiting car. 

Zamfara state has witnessed a number of attacks from armed bandits and cattle rustlers.

The family of 19-year-old Confidence Nwanma, who was allegedly murdered by her boyfriend, 24-year-old Saliu Ladayo (read here), has declared that the killer boyfriend must marry her corpse in line with the tradition of the family.

Nwanma was allegedly stabbed to death last week by Ladayo in the Oshinle area of Akure, the Ondo State capital, following a disagreement that resulted from Ladayo's cheating ways.

Ladayo said Nwanma got information that he was asking another girl out, so she placed a curse on him that he will never succeed in life if he sleeps with another girl. He asked her to take back the curse but she refused and he stabbed her.

Nigerian singer, Kiss Daniel who fell out with his record label G-Worldwide in late 2017 has quietly changed his name to 'Kizz Daniel'.

This follows claim by his former label that they own and trademarked the name 'Kiss Daniel'. Even though Kiss Daniel was reported to have won the case against his label in court, he lost the right to continue using the name 'Kiss Daniel' and now he has changed it to 'Kizz Daniel'.

Nigeria Herdsmen Killings: Lagos Catholic bishops to hold peaceful protest on May 22

The Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria, CBCN, has fixed Tuesday, May 22, as a day of protests for Catholic faithful across the country.

The announcement was made by the bishops in the Sunday Bulletin of the church and circulated to all the dioceses of the church in the country last month. The announcement, entitled “Peaceful Demonstration,” read:  

“The CBCN has directed that every Diocese in Nigeria should organise a peaceful demonstration/ rally against the barbaric but intolerable killing of two priests and 17 others by herdsmen last month in Benue State, Date May 22, 2018. Time:10am, as the funeral of the innocent victims would be going on. Details of how this all important solidarity action will take place in our dioceses will be communicated through the parish priests. Every Christian and all men and women of goodwill are hereby called to participate.”

''15 Revenue-Generating Agencies fail to account for N8.1tillion under Jonathan'' Lai Mohammed says

The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, has said 15 revenue generating agencies of the federal government failed to remit N8.1 trillion to the Federation Account between 2010 and 2015.

The Minister made the disclosure in Osogbo, Osun State, on Monday while commissioning the Channelization, De-silting, Flood Control and Development of Okoko and Ogbagba Rivers, phases one and two, on behalf
of President Muhammadu Buhari.

He said the discovery by the auditing firm KPMG is many times worse than the N1.34 trillion carted away by 55 public officials between 2006 and 2013.

Heartbreaking story: Groom dies in wedding day car crash

Two off-duty NYPD cops, one of whom was the groom on his wedding day, were killed Sunday night when their rented Maserati crashed, authorities said Monday.

Michael Colangelo, a 31-year-old officer with the NYPD who had just gotten married, and Detective John M. Martinez, 39, who was assigned to Brooklyn’s 84th Precinct, were killed in the crash in Ulster County, state police said. Both men, who lived on Long Island, were pronounced dead at the scene of the crash on Oliverea Road in the town of Shandaken.

A third person in the car, a 28-year-old man from Wantagh, LI, suffered non-life threatening injuries and was rushed to Albany Medical Center.

The narcotics control bureau (NCB) in India has arrested a 25-year-old Brazillian woman with 106 capsules of cocaine in her stomach from Indira Gandhi international (IGI) airport.

According to Vishwa Vijay, superintendent of NCB’s Delhi unit, the woman was caught on May 14, soon after she landed at the Delhi airport in a flight from Sao Paulo in Brazil based on prior information.

Nigerian student killed in fatal accident while returning from club in Malaysia

A Nigerian student was killed and a woman, 39, sustained light injuries in an accident at Jalan Semarak near Taman Semarah in Malaysia yesterday.

David Oyaele Audu, a student of the President College in Kuala Lumpur, was coming from a nightclub in Taman Semarak to Nilai town when his car veered off the road and hit the road divider before it was thrown to the opposite lane and crashed into another car driven by a woman. The woman sustained light injuries while Audu died on the spot due to severe head injuries.

The accident happened at about 8.15am on Monday morning. 

N24bn Police Pension Scam: Court grants Dangabar’s application to travel abroad for checkup

Justice Hussein Yusuf Baba of the FCT, High Court, Maitama, Abuja on Monday, May 21, 2018 granted the application of Esai Dangabar, a former director at the Police Pension Board, to travel overseas for medical checkup.

Dangabar is being prosecuted alongside six others for their complicity in the alleged N24billion fraud in the police pension office by the EFCC.

The others are Atiku Abubakar Kigo, Ahmed Inuwa Wada, Veronica Ulonma Onyegbula, Sani Habila Zira, Uzoma Cyril Attang and Christian Madubuke.

Police arrest medical doctor who bought N28m Porsche car with fake bank alert, says hacking into Nigerian banks is very easy

A 28-year-old medical doctor and a professional hacker, Michael Williams, who specializes in generating fake bank alerts to buy assorted vehicles and divert online fund transfers, has been arrested by the Lagos State Police Command.

Commissioner of Police, Edgal Imohimi, who paraded the suspect before newsmen in the command's headquarters in Ikeja yesterday, said the suspect who hails from Delta State, claimed he learnt how to hack accounts when he relocated to Canada.  He alleged his roommate who is from  Israel had taught him the Act.

On how he was arrested, CP Imohimi said his office received a complaint that there exists a syndicate that goes to car shops,  buy any exotic car of their choice, configures a computer program that would send a fake payment alert to the seller and by so doing, obtain the car of their choice under false pretenses.

Williams had visited a car dealer, Abidogun Adewale and bought a Porsche SUV at N28 Million with a fake bank alert.

N9.2M Fraud: Former Oyo State court registrar bags 7years jail term

On Friday, May 18, 2018, EFCC secured the conviction of a former Deputy Chief Registrar of the Oyo State High Court, Mutiat Omobola Adio.

Justice O. M. Olagunju of the Oyo State High Court sitting in Ibadan found the convict guilty on one of a two count charge brought against her.  The count which earns the convict a jail term borders on the allegation of obtaining the sum of N9.2 million by false pretence from one Abiodun Rasheed Olonade, Nigerian reident in Ireland.‎
