FG displays gun, ammunition and other Items recovered from Sambo Dasuki’s Abuja residence In court (photos)

On Tuesday, the Federal Government displayed rifles, ammunition, and other items recovered from the Abuja residence of former National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki, at the Federal High Court Abuja.  

The items were displayed by Williams Obiora, an operative of the Department of State Security Services, (DSS), the prosecuting agency. Led in evidence by the prosecuting counsel, Oladipo Okpeseyi, (SAN), Obiora told the court that local and foreign currencies were also recovered from the house and had been deposited at the Central Bank of Nigeria.  

The money recovered, according to the witness was 40,000 dollars, N5 million and 20,000 dollars found in a vault and a Range Rover vehicle. The DSS operative told the court that they were recovered during a search which was carried out on the house following intelligence report that Dasuki was in possession of weapons injurious to national security.

Sad! Eight year-old boy dies after falling into a well in Kano State

Sadi Yusuf, an eight year-old boy in Tamburawa Gabas town of Kano State on Tuesday died after falling into a well.  

The spokesman of Kano State Fire Service, Alhaji Saidu Mohammed, confirmed to the News Agency of Nigeria that the incident occurred at about 7.30 am. He said the deceased was sent by his mother to go and fetch water in the well.    

Alleged assassination: ''Governor Wike enjoys immunity otherwise..…'' Lai Mohammed

The Minister of Information, Lai Mohammed, has reacted to the allegation made by Rivers state governor, Nyesom Wike, that the Federal government is planning to assassinate him. Governor Wike at a thanksgiving service in Port Harcourt last Sunday May 20th said

“Intelligence report available to us as at this morning indicate that they are plotting to assassinate me in a crowd and claim it was accidental discharge. The level of conspiracy against Rivers State is unfortunate. Instead of focusing on governance, they focus on how to assassinate me or frame me up. I am not afraid because nobody can kill me. What is in me is greater than them”.

Reports were rife on social media yesterday May 23rd with claims that actress and mum of one, Mimi Orjiekwe, was expecting a child for a Warri-based billionaire, Michael Ikuku. The reports claimed that MImi whose marriage to actor Charles Billion packed up last year after finding out he had another family in the US, had been seeing the Billionaire and was living in one of his apartments in Banana Island Lagos.

41 people abducted by unknown gunmen in Birnin Gwari

No fewer than 41 people have been abducted in Birnin Gwari local government area of Kaduna state in two separate attacks. According to reports, the abductions took place in the last 24 hours. 

Confirming the abductions, the Chairman of National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Danladi Idon Duniya, said a Sharon bus and a Golf 3 saloon that were travelling along the Birnin Gwari road were stopped by armed bandits and the 17 passengers were kidnapped.

In a related development, 24 people, mostly traders, who travelling in a commercial bus, were abducted near Labi village along the same route yesterday May 23rd. The victims were on their way to Kano to buy goods.

The NURTW chairman said reports reaching his office, claims that the kidnappers have taken all the 24 abductees into the bush, after forcing them to remove their clothes, while the women among them were forced to remove their veils.

The state police command is yet to react to this development.

The 74-year-old legendary actor revealed this to MailOnline while discussing life as a superstar, restaurateur and hotelier with fellow founders Nobu Matsuhisa and Meir Teper during the launching of the new Nobu Marbella Resort last week.

When asked who his dream dinner guest would be, Robert insisted he would never let Trump into any of the Nobu restaurants.

According to him: 'I don't care what he likes. If he walked into a restaurant I was in - I'd walk out.'

Femi Adesina describes those making negative comments about Buhari's government as Haters

In a chat with Channels TV this morning, Special Assistant to President Buhari on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, says those Nigerians making negative comments about the Buhari-led administration are haters.

According to him, haters never see anything good in their enemies. When asked to respond to a comment made by a guest on the show that President Buhari does not have the mental capacity to manage Nigeria, Adesina said

''You know that haters will always be haters. Whenever anybody is a hater, there is nothing good his enemy can do.There is a saying in Yoruba that the horse of your enemy is never tall. Even if the horse is as tall as a storey building, you would say the horse is a dwarf horse because it belongs to your enemy. Governor Ambode gifts LASU best graduating student N5m, promises to sponsor his masters programme

Lagos State governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, has given N5 million to the Best Graduating student of the Lagos State University (LASU),  Fuhad Adetoro.

The governor made the cash donation to Fuhad at the convocation ceremony of the school which took place at the institution's Ojo campus yesterday May 23rd.

Governor Ambode also adopted Fuhad and pledged to sponsor Fuhad's Masters programme to any University of his choice.

Actress Mercy Johnson and her family have been thrown into mourning as her beloved mother, Mrs. Elizabeth Johnson, just passed on.

Nigeria: Police parade killers of Nasarawa State University lecturer

The Nigerian police on Wednesday confirmed that they have arrested 14 notorious armed robbers suspected to have killed Dr Ibrahim Mailafia, a Senior Lecturer with the Nasarawa State University.  

On 3 November, 2017, Dr Mailafia, while returning to the country after completion of Doctorate Degree in Artificial Intelligence from the United Kingdom, on his way to Kano, Kano State to visit his family was attacked and murdered in cold blood on Kaduna – Zaria – Kano highway by robbers.  Jimoh Moshood, Force Public Relations Officer, while parading the suspect in Abuja said the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, had directed a discreet investigation into the killing to bring perpetrators to justice.

'In 2018, herdsmen have killed 425 people in Benue State' – Governor Ortom

Samuel Ortom, governor of Benue state, says suspected herdsmen have killed 425 people in Benue in 2018 alone. The governor spoke yesterday during the burial of two Catholic priests Felix Tyolaha and Joseph Gor along with17 parishioners killed by gunmen during a raid on Saint Ignatius Parish, Mbalom, Benue.  

The governor regretted the attacks on the church, wondering: “these people were in the church and not on their farms; by this act, they gave moved their narrative to include other motives”.  

He called on the federal government to arrest the killer-herdsmen, saying ” we know our killers but they are not arrested or invited for interrogation; they have stated at several fora that they would reclaim their land.”  The governor said the anti-open grazing law passed by the state assembly and accented by him, was the best way in curbing incessant clashes between herdsmen and farmers in the country.

A New York judge has finally ordered a 30-year-old unemployed man to move out of his parents' home after the couple's attempt to have him vacate their home for months were abortive.

At a Tuesday hearing in court which was attended by the couple, Mark and Christina Rotondo of Camillus, New York and their son Michael, it was heard that their unemployed only-son does not pay any rent, nor does he help with any chores around the house.

The New York State Supreme Court Judge Donald Greenwood who presided over the case also heard that the couple have been trying for months to kick their son out, and even offered to assist when he finally does.

South African military officer dismissed from service over racial comment he made on social media

A South African military officer, Major MV Mohlala, has been dismissed from service over racial comments he made on Facebook. 

Mohlala had left a vile comment in a post shared by the son of an 80-year-old white man, Pastor Braam van Wyk, who was attacked at his home in Randburg on March 10th.

In response to the post, Mohlala commented that worse things should have been done to the man.

''Should actually have poked out his eyes and tongue so that the last people he would ever see, were the killers and he could go to his grave with the nightmare.” Apartheid is in him. All of these old white people think we are stupid when they say they were opposed to apartheid. We will not forget what they have done. Now it is the white people’s turn.” Mohlala wrote

Well, one of the royal wedding guests has found a buyer willing to have her wedding gift bag for a whopping sum of £21,400.  

Claire Oliver, 31, was one of the 1,200 non-VIPs invited to spend the day outside St George's Chapel as Prince Harry and Meghan Markle got married on Saturday. She is from Cambridge but lives in south-east London and works in HR for Troup Bywaters, an engineering group heavily involved in offering apprenticeships to get more young people in work - a cause close to Harry's heart.

A cleaner at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Ikeja, Lagos State, Charity Bassey, recently found a nylon containing $6,000 valued at over N2million in the toilet at the airport while cleaning it and returned it to the security department at the airport. 

Bassey was on duty at the departure wing of the airport when she picked up the item from the floor in the toilet. Narrating how she found the money, Blessing said;

'Our foreign reserve has risen to 47.5 billion USD as of May 2018' - President Buhari

President Buhari while giving a keynote address during the 17th Productivity Order of Merit Award in Abuja on Tuesday said, 'Nigeria's foreign reserve has risen to 47.5 billion USD as of May 2018 as against 29.6 billion USD in May 2015'.

He added that, 'the inflation rate declined from a peak of 18.7 percent in January 2017 to 12.4 percent in April 2018, making it the 15th consecutive month of deceleration. The Gross Domestic Product (GDP) recovered after five quarters of continuous contraction, recording positive growths of 0.7, 1.4, and 1.9 percent in quarters two, three and four of 2017, respectively, and signaling an exit from the recession'.

An amendment bill passed in the House of Representatives yesterday proposed a N2 million fine and a two-year jail term for abuse of tramadol and codeine.  

The bill, which seeks to amend the Food, Drugs and Related Products (Registration, etc) Act Cap. F33 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004 to review the penalties and confer jurisdiction on High Court of the state to try offences under the Act, was sponsored by Betty Apiafi (Betty Apiafi ,PDP Rivers) passed second reading yesterday.
