Yesterday, a Nigerian soldier, John Oden, took to Facebook to express gratitude to God for keeping him safe in Maiduguri after 4 years of Fighting boko haram and returning him back home alive to his wife and mother.

In a post shared on her Facebook page, the soldier's wife, Esther Oden, expressed gratitude to God for protecting her husband during his stay in Maiduguri and not allowing her to become a widow.

The Catholic priest who got infected with Ebola virus in the Democratic Republic of Congo has been identified as Fr.Lucian Ambunga.

Earlier this week, Health officials in Congo revealed that he was infected with the virus in the town of Mbandaka. “We have quarantined a priest from the diocese of Mbandaka-Bikoro who tested positive” for the Ebola virus, a medical source told AFP.

Katherine Overcamp of Catholic Relief Services revealed that the Fr. Lucian contracted Ebola while 'taking care of someone who passed away.' 

She added the priest is 'responding well to treatment', the Catholic News Service reported. 

According to a World Health Organization count, over 50 cases have been identified since early April.

24 passengers narrowly survive as two boats capsize in Lagos

At least 24 passengers escaped death on Friday evening when two boats collided and capsized in the Ojo area of Lagos State.

The accident which occurred at about 7:45pm close to the Ojo Terminal involved two open fiber boats. Managing Director of the Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA), Damilola Emmanuel, who confirmed the incident, said one of the boats was driving at full capacity with 22 passengers, while the other had just the boat captain and deckhand on board.  

He said immediately the incident occurred, the patrol team at the Ojo Terminal was able to move swiftly to rescue the situation. “One boat was going from Liverpool to Ojo while the other was doing a return trip from same location. LASWA response team were able to rescue all passengers from the capsized boat and transported them to shore, no lives were lost,”

Italian footballer, Federico Zini found dead with his ex-girlfriend in suspected murder-suicide

Italian footballer, Federico Zini, has been found dead along with his ex-girlfriend after a suspected murder-suicide.

25 year old Zini who played for Serie D side Tuttocuoio, shot his 30-year-old former girlfriend Elisa Amato following a violent dispute and then took his own life, police said. The bodies of the pair were found inside Zini’s car at San Miniato, near Pisa in Tuscany on Saturday morning.

“It was a murder-suicide,” police told Gazzetta Dello Sport. Striker Zini had been considered a promising youth footballer in Italy when he started his career at Tuscany club Empoli. He had spent four years playing for teams in Malta, Bulgaria, the Philippines and Mongolia before returning to Italy last year.

Music producer GospelOnDeBeatz, whose real name is Gospel Chinemeremu Obi, has been robbed at a hotel in South Africa.

The producer, who went to South Africa for a shoot, lodged in Maslow Hotel only to have 7,000 Rands stolen from his room, leaving him with no money to get by for the remainder of his stay.

He took to his Instagram Story to say that the hotel wouldn't cooperate with him and release CCTV footage to explain what really happened.

How desperate husband killed wife to take over her estate

The sisters of a dead woman are claiming her husband orchestrated her death in order to gain access to her estate.

Late Josephine Ibu and her three sisters agreed in 1999 to build a structure as a way of preserving their family name. They planned to build an imposing shopping complex in Lagos, to bear the family name, "Ibu Igbere Shopping Plaza."

In 2001, Josephine, then a spinster, bought two plots of land situated at Ago Palace Way, Okota, Isolo with money contributed by all the sisters, especially the two elder sisters who were based in the United States. The four daughters held joint tenancy of the property. Josephine had only started working with Directorate of Petroleum Resources (DPR) at the time so she couldn't afford to make as much donation as her elder sisters.

Some years later, a shopping complex was built on the land. Though they all contributed to the property, Josephine, who is based in Nigeria was the one who made payment for it, so the receipt for the purchase of the land had her name on it. She held the land in a representative capacity and in trust for all the Ibu sisters, considering that each of them made contributions towards erecting the said structures.

Man kills himself and entire family in car crash as he was livestreaming while driving (video)

A man mistakenly killed himself and eight other members of his family in a horrific car crash as he was livestreaming while driving.

The van, which carried nine members of the same family, collided with an oncoming truck on a highway about 60 kilometers from Budapest in Hungary. Everyone on board was killed instantly. 

The van’s driver, a 38 years old male, was streaming the ride live on Facebook and wasn't paying attention to the road in front of him. Towards the end of the video, the van is seen driving at top speed straight into the path of an oncoming truck.

The video ends with the camera falling after the car and the truck collided. No one survived.

Mother takes her children up to the roof and threatens to toss them off the ledge (video)

A mother and her two little children were rescued after she went up a roof with them and stood dangerously close to the edge.

The Delray Beach police responded to a call on Saturday of a woman and children standing on a roof. When the officers arrived on the scene, they found a 23-year-old woman with her two small children. The three were on the garage ledge on a townhouse and the children were crying out in fear.

One of the officers, Rob Addea, immediately stood under the window, so that he would be ready to catch them if they fall.

"Just get the kids back inside. Please. Please. That’s all we want you to do," he begged the woman who is believed to have been under the influence of a substance.

FG declares Tuesday, May 29th public holiday

The Federal Government has declared Tuesday, May 29, as public holiday to celebrate the 2018 Democracy Day.

Minister of Interior, retired Lt.-Gen Abdulrahman Dambazau, made the declaration on Friday in Abuja on behalf of the Federal Government in a statement issued by Dr M. Umar the Permanent Secretary.  

Dambazau congratulated Nigerians on the occasion and pledged government’s continued dedication to entrenching democracy in the country. He also urged all Nigerians to trust and support the government in its commitment to building an indivisible, peaceful and greater nation based on the tenets of democracy.

The Minister wished all Nigerians a Happy Democracy Day celebration.

A Catholic priest, Rev. Godwin Tyragher, who shared the sad news on Facebook, said proper treatment would have saved the child.

"This my parishioners,one of the IDPs at Daudu camp lost her only son this morning.pls may u kindly continue to pray and support IDPs especially those who are sick among them.Ordinarily if proper medical attention is given to this child, he couldn't have died"

Former banker arraigned for stealing N16 million in Ibadan

The Ibadan Zonal Office of EFCC on Friday 25th May, 2018 arraigned one Sunday Fadayomi, a former banker, before Justice M. L. Owolabi of the Oyo State High Court sitting in Iyaganku, Ibadan, on 30-count charges bordering on stealing contrary to Section 390 (6) (9) Criminal Code, Cap 38, vol. 2, Laws of Oyo State, 2000.

In view of the defendant’s not-guilty plea, prosecution counsel Adeola Elumaro prayed the court for a trial date.  However, counsel to the defendant, Suleman Umaru Jabata informed the court of an application for bail dated 24 May, 2018, praying the court to admit the defendant to bail pending the determination of the charges against him. He further prayed the court to allow the defendant remain in the EFCC’s custody pending bail. Prosecution counsel however, told the court that if bail will be granted on terms that will ensure the continuous availability of the defendant in court, he will not oppose the bail.

Update: Police recover Gombe State House of Assembly mace that was stolen

Police in Gombe State confirm that they have recovered the mace of the state’s House of Assembly, forcefully taken away in a scuffle by some members during plenary on Thursday.  

The Commissioner of Police in the state, Shina Olukolu told newsmen in Gombe that the mace was found around National Industrial Court in the state capital in the early hours of Friday.

The mace, the symbol of authority of the legislature, was said to have been whisked away by some aggrieved members of the assembly after a failed attempt to change their leadership.

EFCC, Lagos Zonal office, on Thursday, May 24, 2018,  arraigned one Michael Obasuyi Osasogie alongside his firms-Platinum Multi-Purpose Co-operative Society, SmartMicro Systems Limited and Platinum Smart Cruise Motors Limited- before Justice Justice Mojisola Dada of the Special Offences Court sitting in Ikeja on a 14-count charge bordering on stealing to the tune of over eleven billion naira (N11, 498, 944, 038.29), an offence which is contrary to Section 285 (1) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

One of the counts reads: "That you, Michael Obasuyi Osasogie, Platinum Multi-Purpose Co-operative Society, SmartMicro Systems Limited and Platinum Smart Cruise Motors Limited, sometime in the year 2016 in Lagos within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, conspired to commit felony, to wit: stealing of the sum of N11, 498, 944, 038.29 (Eleven Billion, Four Hundred and Ninety Eight Million, Nine Hundred and Forty Four Thousand, Thirty Eight Naira, Twenty Nine Kobo) property of First Bank Nigeria Ltd."
