'Over N500billion recovered via whistle blower policy' - Buhari

President Buhari has revealed that the staggering sum of over N500billion has been recovered by his administration thanks to the success of the whistle blower policy. He said this during his Democracy Day speech which aired at 7:00 a.m. Tuesday.

The president's claim however contradicts those of his finance minister, Kemi Adeosun and anti corruption chief, Ibrahim Magu.  As at the end of March, Kemi Adeosun gave N7.8 billion, $378 million and £27,800 as the total recovered through whistle-blowing tips. A total of N143billion.

Tennis champ, Serena Williams'baby daughter Olympia and husband Alexis Ohanian have joined her in Paris ahead of the French Open Tournament.

The former World's No 1 who has now fallen to 453rd in the world ranking, after taking time out to have a baby, will be returning to work with her first Grand Slam match since welcoming baby Olympia in September 2017.

Her Reddit co-founder husband Alexis Ohanian and their daughter will be among the very special guests cheering her on while she bids to fight her way back to the top.
 
On Monday, the trio were spotted together in Paris ahead of Serena's first game on Tuesday.

Video shows New Jersey cop brutally punching a woman on the beach

A New Jersey cop was filmed repeatedly punching a woman on a beach in Southern New Jersey and the video has generated massive outrage.

20-year-old Emily Weinman of Philadelphia was punched mostly on the head as the police officers placed her under arrest for alcohol use.

Lexy Hewitt, the beachgoer who filmed the incident with her phone, narrated the incident.

"She started screaming initially. It was almost like blood-curdling," Hewitt said. "The officers were on top of her on the ground and that's when I just decided — there's so much going on everywhere — why not, just in case [record the incident]."

The video does not show what led to the confrontation.

Two police officers and a passerby shot dead by gunman in Belgium

Two police officers and a passerby were killed on Tuesday night when a gunman opened fire in the eastern Belgian city of Liege.

According to a spokesperson from the Liege prosecutor's office, the assailant has since been "neutralized". It is not yet clear what the attacker's motive may have been, the spokesperson added.

Belgian Interior Minister Jan Jambon said on Twitter that the country's crisis center was monitoring the situation. The incident took place in the vicinity of a local high school. The crisis center said that the students were safe and that none had been injured. Authorities in Liege are expected to provide an update on the incident later Tuesday.

Liege is Belgium's third-largest city, after Brussels and Antwerp, according to the national tourist office. For centuries, it has been an important cultural and industrial center for the country. In 2011, Liege was the scene of a grenade and gun attack that left at least 5 dead and injured more than 100

Better electricity: 'Nigerians now report “less use of generators'- President Buhari says

This underscores the effectiveness of the methodical plan to deliver incremental and uninterrupted power supply to our homes, markets, offices and factories. The country achieved 5,222.3 MW representing the highest peak of power generated onto the national grid and delivered to customers in December, 2017. With new facilities, repairs and rehabilitations by government and private investors, generation capability now exceeds 7,500 MW,” he said

Newborn goes missing in Kogi hospital hours after delivery

A newborn baby has gone missing hours after being born in Peniel Maternity and Clinic, aka Mummy's hospital, in Anyigba, Dekina LGA, Kogi State.

Fitumi, a relative of the missing child's father, said the baby was delivered early on Sunday and was kept in the care of the nurse on duty, but the child disappeared a few hours after birth.

Upon interrogation, the nurse on duty couldn't explain what happened to the child. She was then taken to Anyigba Police station for further investigation.

Senator Shehu Sani, representing Kaduna Central Zone at the National Assembly has announced his intention to contest against Governor Nasir El-Rufai in the 2019 elections.

In a recent interview with Guardian, the lawmaker condemned the outcome of the local government election in Kaduna.

He said: “It was very clear that the results of the recently-conducted local council elections in Kaduna State did not reflect what happened. Even, there was no ward congress in the state; they just wrote list of names and submitted and this situation has worsened the internal crisis among those who used their money to buy forms. Let it be known to Governor El-Rufai that I am contesting against him in 2019 governorship election in the state. The election will not be conducted by the state electoral commission.”

Sani, however, warned that the attacks and killings by Boko Haram insurgents and Fulani herdsmen would affect the political fortune of the APC during the presidential and governorship elections in many states.

Hero "Spiderman" who scaled building to save child meets French President, gets honorary citizenship and a job with the Paris fire service

The Malian immigrant, who scaled an apartment building in Paris to save the life of a dangling 4-year-old has met with French President Emmanuel Macron and he's been rewarded for his brave act.

Mamoudou Gassama, a 22-year-old undocumented immigrant, has been dubbed "Le Spiderman" because of how fast he scaled the building to get to the child.

After the video of him saving the boy went viral, he met with President Macron at the Elysée Palace, after which Macron revealed that Mamoudou will be granted French citizenship and enrolled as a firefighter in the French fire service.

"All the papers will be put in order," Macron said when meeting Mamoudou Gassama.

Retired English teacher corrects an error-ridden letter from President Trump and sends it back to the White House

A retired high school English teacher has made headlines after she corrected a letter signed by President Donald Trump that she received from the White House after which she mailed the corrected copy back to the White House.

Yvonne Mason, who retired last year after a 17-year teaching career in South Carolina, described the letter as  "stylistically appalling". She said it would barely have received a passing grade if a high schooler had written it.

Mason told Greenville News: "If it had been written in middle school, I’d give it a C or C-plus. If it had been written in high school, I’d give it a D."
