‘Transmission’ in Buhari’s letter elicits laughter among senators

Senators bursted out laughing during plenary today when a letter from President Buhari was read on the floor of the house by senate president Bukola Saraki. In the course of  reading the title of the letter, Saraki mentioned the word transmission.

This elicited laughter amongst the senators.  The senate president also burst into laughter, forcing him to start reading the letter afresh.”Let me start again,” he said.

The title of the letter read, “Transmission of the Deep Offshore and Inland Basin Production Sharing Contracts Amendment Bill 2018.”

Recall that last month, a video of the Inspector General of PoliceIbrahim Idris, reading a speech at a function and struggling with the word ''Transmission;;, Commission and ''Transfusion'' went viral.

Mobile phone allegedly explodes in man's pocket setting him on fire in Morocco (video)

A video shared online shows a man in flames running around a mall and online reports claimed the fire was caused by a mobile phone which exploded in his pocket.

There are conflicting reports, however. Some say it happened in Dubai Mall on June 4, others say it took place in the city of Agadir in Morocco on June 3.

On its official Twitter account, the Dubai Civil Defence explained that the fire was caused due to a faulty mobile phone that exploded in the victim's pocket. However, they stated that the incident did not take place anywhere in the UAE.

The Olofa of Offa, Mufutau Gbadamosi, has asked the Nigeria Police force to be careful in their investigation as himself and his subjects will not be party to any attempt to tarnish the image of senate president, Bukola Saraki.

The monarch's comment comes few days after the suspected criminals that carried out the April 5th Offa bank robberies, implicated the senate president, accusing him of employing them as his political thugs.

In a statement released by his principal private secretary, Tajudeen Olyede, the monarch appealed to the police to avoid unnecessary sensationalism of the robbery incident.

A 30-year-old man accused of raping a 10-year-old girl in Benin, Edo state, has reportedly been granted bail.

Mr. Nwachukwu Benjamin was granted bail today by a magistrate court in Benin city and this has angered citizens, including civil rights groups. 

Israel Joe, a civil rights activist, shared the news on social media and claimed that the alleged rapist's family vowed to use their wealth to secure his freedom before he was released today.

It was reported that the case was transferred to State CID Benin and was allegedly compromised by the investigating police officer IPO.

Lagos Police arrests 7 people for importing physically challenged kids into the state to beg

The Decoy Team of the Rapid Response Squad has arrested seven barons for importing 8 physically challenged children into Lagos for begging on Mobolaji Bank Anthony Way, Ikeja, Lagos.

The seven Barons along with 6 of their 8 beggars were arrested mid - day on Monday, after almost a week of monitoring.

Amongst the Barons arrested were: Sanni Isiaku (40), Abubakar Gahu (50), Abdullahi Mohammed (45), Nasiru Yusman (21), Mato Abdullahi (20), Nura Idris (17) and Sagiru Ibrahim (26).

The physically challenged children found in their possession are: Aminu Kabiru (12), Yusuph Nasiru (9), Amina Kabir (12), Ayuba Idris (12). According to Mato Abdullahi, “I borrowed Amina Kabir from her mother who happened to be my sister. I bring her early in the morning to ‘Underbridge’ to beg. She begged while I wait around.

Man United signs Diogo Dalot for £17.4m from Porto

Manchester United have announced the signing of full-back Diogo Dalot from Porto on a five-year deal.

The Portugal Under 21 international was bought for £17.4million and has the option to stay an extra year in his contract. 

The 19-year-old who can also play left back helped Portugal win the 2016 UEFA European Under 17 Championship, scoring twice in five games in Azerbaijan including once in the final against Spain.

The Nigeria Police Force today gave an update into the investigation of the April 5th Offa Bank Robbery, whose gang leaders the police are now linking to senate President Bukola Saraki.

One of the gang leaders, Ayoade Akinnibosun on Sunday June 3rd, confessed to being a political thug of senate president Bukola Saraki. He mentioned that three other political thugs of the senate president who participated in the Offa bank robbery were at large and have arms and ammunition in their possession. 

The spokesperson of the Nigeria Police Force, Jimoh Moshood, today announced that two out of the three political thugs have been arrested.

The suspects, Alhaji Kehinde Gobiri aka Captain ‘47yrs’ and a native of Ilorin East LGA Kwara State and Alhaji Oba Shuaib Olododo aka Jawando ‘53yrs’ Native of Ilorin South, Kwara State are now in Police custody and have admitted to various crimes and criminalities they have committed in Kwara Central Senatorial District under the guise of political thuggery for Senate President, Sen. Bukola Saraki. They are currently under investigation and will be charged to court on completion of investigation.

Drama as Senate confirms four INEC commissioners

Moments ago, the Senate confirmed four Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) commissioner nominees.  

They are Monday Udo Tom (Akwa-Ibom), Attahiru Madami (Niger), Ahmed Mahmud (Zamfara) as Resident Electoral Commissioners and Festus Okoye (South-east Geo Political Zone) as National Electoral Commissioner.  

The confirmation process, however, went rowdy when some lawmakers challenged the report of the Senate Committee on INEC when it attempted to reject Ahmed Mahmud for the third time. The lawmakers had twice earlier rejected Mr Mahmud in November 2017 on the grounds that he is not an indigene of Zamfara but of Sokoto State.  

According to a Premium Times report, It all started when the Chairman of the committee, Suleiman Nazif (Bauchi North), read out the recommendations of the committee. Nazif explained that members of the committee were satisfied with the nominees’ level of education and work experience except of Mr Mahmud. He said they demonstrated high level of competence in response to questions put to them.

FG scraps award of HND certificates by Polytechnics in the country

The Nigerian Government has scrapped award of HND certificates by Polytechnics. The decision was reached at the Federal Executive Council, FEC today where the approval of a comprehensive reform of Nigeria’s tertiary education system was made.

In effect, the award of HND will be limited to only the students currently admitted for the programmes.

Also, all the programmes currently being run by polytechnics, which are not technology-based, and which are about 70 per cent, will be scrapped. Under the new rule, the polytechnics will now become campuses of the proximate universities with the Vice Chancellors of those universities appointing provosts for the polytechnics, subject to the ratification of the Universities Councils.  

The polytechnics will now be limited to award of the National Diploma (ND) while those desirous of further education will be awarded the Bachelor of Technology (B. Tech) by the proximate university.

To kick-start the new policy, the nation’s two most prominent polytechnics Yaba College of Technology and Kaduna Polytechnic will henceforth be known as City University of Technology, Yaba and City University of Technology, Kaduna.  And to give legal teeth to these approvals, the FEC approved the submission of two Executive bills to the National Assembly for enactment.  

The first bill will concretise the setting up of the two city universities while the second will approve the preparation and consolidation of all federal polytechnics and colleges of education as campuses of proximate universities. The Ministry of Justice will do the preparation and submission of the two bills to the National Assembly.

At a joint executive session of the both chambers of the Assembly earlier today, members of the National Assembly passed a 12-point condition for the president to address urgently or face the invocation of the powers of the legislature to impeach him.

'Corrupt INEC officials in Oyo State will be prosecuted' - Resident Electoral Commissioner, Mutiu Agboke

Mutiu Agboke, the Resident Electoral Commissioner in Oyo State, has said officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), who are found to be corrupt, risk being sacked and prosecuted.

Agboke who gave the warning today in Ibadan at the maiden Ramadan lecture organised by the commission, said that INEC would not hesitate in sacking and prosecuting any of its staff involved  in corrupt practices.  

He said the mandate of the commission was to make election processes transparent, impartial, credible, free and fair.  

Miss America is scrapping the swimsuit portion from its pageant

The swimsuit portion of the Miss America beauty pageant will be scrapped starting from the next edition of Miss America. Also, the pageant will be more inclusive to women of all sizes, the contest announced Tuesday.

Gretchen Carlson, the chairwoman of the Miss America board of directors, announced on "Good Morning America" that the event will no longer feature a swimsuit portion.

Carlson also said on the show that Miss America will now be a competition, not a pageant.

"We will no longer judge our candidates on their outward physical appearance. That's huge,"

The suspects confessed that they were members of Black Axxe/Vikings Fraternity and have direct link with the ongoing cult activities in Awka and the alleged murder of a 30-year-old man, Chukwudozie Patrick Nwosu, Sunday Nwaboko, Victor Omemma, Ifeanyi Ndubuisi, Nnamdi Anih and others at various areas within the state.

The command also arrested other arrested suspects who are not directly involved in the alleged murders but belong to various cult groups. They are

Nigerian parents loose all three children to sickle cell anaemia

A couple have become childless after all three of their kids died as a result of sickle cell anemia.

They lost their daughter first. Two years later, they lost a son. Their last son died three days ago, after years of living with sickle cell.

A Twitter user who knows the family shared the story and cautioned lovers to be aware of their genotype before talking about marriage.

She tweeted: 

I lost a friend in sec school bcuz she was an SS. 2yrs after, her brother died too. Just yesterday, the last son we thought would survive also had crisis and died. What sort of stupid love would make u risk the lives of ur children? Before you say Yes, ask for their Genotype.
