'In Italy, 1500 Nigerians are currently serving jail terms for various offences' - Italian Ambassador to Nigeria, Stefanou Pontesilli

Stefanou Pontesilli, the Italian Ambassador to Nigeria says no fewer than 1500 Nigerians are serving  jail terms for various offences in Italy.  Pontesilli who made the disclosure in an interview with newsmen in Abuja said the number was huge.

“In Italy we have about 1500 Nigerians in jail for various offences. It is a big number. We sometimes send them back to Nigeria once they finished their terms because they have not behaved well” he said.

Captain Barbra Wangeci Kamau, the pilot who was steering the ill-fated FlySax aircraft that crashed in the Aberdares has been laid to rest on 14th June  in Kiambu, Kenya.

Barbra became a captain in September 2017. She and First Officer Jean Mureithi were killed when the plane hit a hillside in the Aberdares. The women were among 10 people who perished in the plane crash.

Africa's Richest man, Aliko Dangote, has provided 200 housing units for Internally Displaced Persons, particularly the widows, in Borno state. He commissioned the housing units yesterday June 18th.

At the comissioning, Dangote said his foundation has so far spent over N7 billion in providing humanitarian assistance to those displaced by Boko Haram in the Northeast, and would provide N2 billion more.

CCTV footage from the long-distance coach shows the driver shaking as he suddenly begins to suffer a stroke. Almost immediately, he collapsed to the side of his seat with his seatbelt still on while driving on a motorway in the city of Linyi in East China’s Shandong province.

American rapper, Jimmy Wopo, 21, shot dead within hours of XXXTentacion killing

A fast-rising Pittsburgh rapper, Jimmy Wopo, was also shot dead on Monday, just hours after Florida rapper XXXTentacion, 20, was confirmed dead after being shot in Florida.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Wopo who was only 21 was traveling with another male in a white Mazda SUV when they were shot about 4:22 p.m. in the Middle Hill neighborhood.

Pittsburgh Police confirmed that the second victim is in stable condition.

The Elm Street rapper's manager Taylor Maglin confirmed the death of his client, real name Travon Smart, on Facebook.

Man fleeing from SARS dies of internal bleeding after hitting his chest on an iron gate

A young man has died of internal bleeding after hitting his chest on an iron gate allegedly while fleeing from SARS operatives.

The deceased, whose name was given as Emmanuel Sunday Opeyemi a.k.a Awilo, met his untimely demise following the chase by SARS operatives at Tarmac, Abeokuta, in Ogun State.

According to online reports, Awilo and some other citizens were around the overhead bridge at Tarmac where a military officer mistaken for a yahoo boy was harassed last week. The SARS operatives returned to the venue days later and when Awilo and others sighted them, they fled to avoid further harassment but, while running, he hit his chest against an iron gate and it pierced his ribs. He later died of internal bleeding.

How 12-year-old girl stopped train from killing over 300 people in Zimbabwe

A 13-year-old girl has been rewarded by the National Railways of Zimbabwe (NRZ) for averting a train disaster that could have killed at least 300 people when she was only 12.

Nozipho Sibanda, a form one pupil of Entumbane High School in Zimbabwe, saw a broken railway line in Sawmills last September, an hour before a Bulawayo-bound train from Victoria falls was set to pass. The girl rushed to inform the station manager at Sawmills railway station and station manager stopped the train that was due to pass on that track within an hour. At the time, she was a 12-year-old Grade Seven pupil at Sawmills Primary School.

A newly married woman is celebrating after her husband survived what could have easily been a fatal accident.

Chiamaka Ezeh shared photos of the wrecked car her husband and friends came out alive from after a crash. They were traveling when the accident occurred. Fortunately, none of them were harmed in the crash. 

Update: Governor Obaseki's female aide who was battered by council officials, remains in critical condition

Special Assistant to Governor Godwin Obaseki on Political Matters, Mrs. Maris Igbons, who was reportedly beaten by officials of Esan West local government area is currently in critical condition at a private hospital and unable to talk.

A former Vice Chairman of Esan West, Mrs. Esther Eghaghe, who confirmed the incident said that Igbons was beaten by the council officials who were out to collect revenue. Igbons had also complied with a directive from the council officials that she should shift her shop away from the road.

According to the president, 'we must always arrest people coming into our Country illegally. Of the 12,000 children, 10,000 are being sent by their parents on a very dangerous trip, and only 2000 are with their parents, many of whom have tried to enter our Country illegally on numerous occasions'.

Supreme Council of Bishops seek presidential pardon for 5 young men sentenced to death in Adamawa State for killing a herdsman

The Supreme Council of Bishops, also known as World Council of Bishops, has written President Buhari, pleading for pardon for five young men sentenced to death by a court in Adamawa for the killing of a herdsman.

A Yola High Court had on June 11, 2018 sentenced the five men from Kodomun in Demsa council area of the state to death by hanging for murdering a herder in retaliation to the several killings in the area.In the letter, the bishops noted that Nigeria “has suffered untold bloodshed from killings, maiming, traumatisation of innocent citizens around the north eastern, north central and Middle Belt states, as a result of the frequent attacks by the militia herdsmen times without number.”  

The correspondence, titled, “Special request for presidential pardon: Killing by hanging of five young men,” was signed by founding Primate, Abuja, Nigeria, Archbishop (Dr.) P.  Sunday; Ecclesiastical Prelate Administrator, Houston, Texas, United State, Archbishop (Dr.) H. Parker; Apostolic Nuncio and Prelate to Africa, Lagos, Nigeria, Bishop (Dr.) J. Onyegbulem; and Ecclesiastical Prelate to West Africa, Niamey, Niger Republic, Bishop (Dr.) J. Hussein.  

The clerics regretted that “till date no adequate justice had been meted out on them commensurate to the lives and property lost.” It therefore “totally condemns and disapproves vehemently the death sentence passed on the five young men on Monday, June 11, 2018 by a court of competent jurisdiction in Yola, Adamawa State, Nigeria accused and charged for killing a herdsman.

Detectives from the homicide section of the Lagos State Command have launched investigation into the murder of one Taofeek Sosanya at his friend’s home at 1 Modupe street in Alapere area of Lagos.

The deceased Sosanya, 28, had gone to celebrate the Eid el-Fitr with his friend, Femi Idowu, with a plan to return to his base in Ogun State on Monday.

Nigerian man arrested in Cambodia for scamming Vietnamese businesswoman out of $356,000

A 43-year-old Nigerian man, Remigius Duru Okonkwo was brought before Phnom Penh court, Cambodia on June 17, for defrauding a Vietnamese businesswoman of $356,000 USD.

According to the victim identified as Darg Mai Nga, on January 2018, she met the suspect via social media. On January 10, the suspect went to Hanoi to meet the victim, and convinced her to invest in a brick-making factory in Cambodia.

Abuja housewife seeks divorce from her husband of 30 years over his refusal to pray

Hassana Angyan, a housewife on Tuesday begged a Kubwa Grade 1 Area Court to dissolve her marriage with Shuaibu Abdullahi, over his drunkenness, refusal to pray and battery.  

Angyan told the court that she got married to Abdullahi 30 years ago, under Islamic Law, the marriage produced six children. She then said Abdullahi formed the habit of drinking beer and refuses to perform the five times obligatory Islamic prayers.  

World Health Organization says video game addiction is a mental disorder

The World Health Organization on Monday classified "gaming disorder" as a mental health condition. 

The condition described as ‘gaming disorder’ will be added to the 11th edition of WHO’s International Classification of Diseases.

The U.N. health agency said classifying "gaming disorder" as a separate addiction will help governments, families and healthcare workers be more vigilant and prepared to identify the risks.  But the agency and other experts were quick to note that cases of the condition are still very rare, with no more than up to 3 percent of all gamers believed to be affected.

An armed robbery suspect and former militant who was rehabilitated by members of the Omega Power Ministries, Port Harcourt in Rivers state, has been rearrested for Armed robbery.

According to a post on the church's Facebook page, after his rehabilitation, Gracious was able to secure a job with Federal University of Technology Owerri FUTO with the help of the church. 'Cabals and godfathers are to be blamed for deliberately keeping Nigerians poor' - Fela Durotoye

Motivational speaker and 2019 presidential hopeful, Fela Durotoye has accused godfathers and cabals in politics of keeping Nigerians impoverished on purpose so that they can keep winning elections.

He said poverty is a deliberate strategy by the so-called cabals to influence the electoral system in the country by giving people the least bit of inducements to stay dependent on their generosity.  

Durotoye spoke during an interview with Starr Radio UK yesterday when he was asked what he thinks is Nigeria's greatest problem. According to him, if Nigeria is able to break the power grip of godfathers in Nigerian politics, all of the country's problems will be solved as they keep an unhealthy hold on power to the detriment of everyone else.

Prophet Wale Olagunju, the presiding Bishop, Divine Seed of God Chapel Ministries has spoken on the state of the nation saying 'It is not in the mind set of God for Buhari to rule beyond May 2019'.

In a recent interview with City People, the man of God said, 'let me give you my own Biblical view, whenever there is injustice there will be no peace. Forget about those Bishops who are saying it shall be well with Nigeria. I am a die-hard supporter of Buhari in those days. One, to me his war against corruption is too selective. In two years, 24 LASTMA officials have been dismissed over misconduct allegations

Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has dismissed 24 of its personnel in the past two years over misconduct. The authority has also lost about 10 personnel, while some others suffered injuries with some resulting in amputation in the course of carrying out their duties.  

Chief Executive Officer of the authority, Christian Olakpe made the disclosure saying LASTMA also punished erring officers and men in some other ways including suspension, rank reduction and isolation.

“There are various avenues we use to checkmate the misconducts of officials on duty,” Olakpe said.  He said that LASTMA had received numerous complaints against its officers.
