A Federal High Court sitting in Sokoto State, has affirmed that both the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) are legally mandated to investigate and prosecute any person or authority over allegations of corruption anywhere in Nigeria.

Justice S. K. Idris, who gave the ruling in a suit filed by the Sokoto State government, seeking to restrict ICPC and EFCC from inviting, investigating, arresting or prosecuting any official of the state government on allegations of corruption, dismissed the claim, noting that the two anti-corruption agencies had been so empowered by an Act of Parliament to perform the duties of fighting corruption in all the 36 states of the federation.

The Sokoto State government had approached the court through the Attorney General of the State, Suleiman Usman, asking for a declaration and injunction that would stop ICPC and EFCC from carrying out any anti-corruption duties on any official or government department of the state on any matter or issue which the State House of Assembly can legislate on.

The Nigerian Army says it has arrested 17 persons in connection with the killing of at least 100 people in the central state of Plateau over the weekend.

This was revealed by Army Spokesman, Major Adam Umar. He said three of the arrested suspects were linked to killings in the Barikin Ladi area, while the other 14 were arrested in connection with the deaths of travellers in the south of the state capital, Jos.

In the lawsuit, it was claimed that Sheeran's song has the same melody, rhythms, harmonies, drums, bassline, backing chorus, tempo, syncopation and looping as "Let's Get it On."

The disturbing video showing the beating has gone viral and angered viewers. In it, the Mobile Alabama man is seen slapping the woman and stomping on her as she tries unsuccessfully to protect herself from the blows. 

The video was recorded by a family member who did nothing to stop the assault. According to reports, the abusive man accused his wife of "telling their business" to the man's son from a previous relationship.

A middle-aged Nigerian man has died after ingesting rat poison in Bauchi state, Nigeria.

According to reports, the troubled man took the poison and started to vomit white substance from his mouth few minutes later. 

He died before his neighbors could rush him to the hospital. Remnants of the poison were found close by, hinting at how he died. 

His corpse was later evacuated from the area and taken to an undisclosed place. According to reports, he will not be taken to the morgue or given a proper burial because he died of suicide.

Customers said they were sad to see the giant toy store close.

A laundry firm operator has confessed to consuming human blood given to him by a pastor so his business will thrive.

Emeka Chukwuemeka was arrested by operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS, after neighbors alerted the police to the putrefying stench of blood coming from his laundry shop at Oregun, Ikeja, Lagos.

He was arrested on Sunday and he confessed to consuming human blood for riches though he says he got no result afterward.

He narrated:

Media reports said Kenichiro Okamoto, better known by his blogger name Hagex, died after reportedly being attacked by a man he had argued with online. The suspect, Hidemitsu Matsumoto, allegedly followed Okamoto into the toilets after he had ended his talk at a venue in the south-western city of Fukuoka.
