Designer deniers to rock these season

A look at this season’s catwalks would suggest this winter’s legwear is loco for the logo — with everyone from Gucci to Chanel adding luxe legwear to their ranges. In fact, fashion search platform Lyst reports searches for logo tights are up 61 per cent since September. But how much would you be prepared to spend on haute hosiery?

Gucci have a pair of tights embellished with sparkling crystals forming the historic GG motif which will set you back an impressive £750. While these would presumably sparkle through the darkest of locked-down days, one could buy the smaller size of Gucci’s GG Marmont quilted leather shoulder bag for the same price — a more functional purchase perhaps, with reduced laddering anxiety.

And yet the tights, first debuted in the spring/summer 2020 collection, are nearly sold out everywhere online in both nude and black. Personally, I would opt for the brand’s interlocking GG jacquard-knit tights for £170 instead — a pricey pair still, but a fashion-forward entry point to the brand for those that might not be able to stretch to a pair of its logo-stamped furry loafers.

Chanel debuted its first logo legwear at its autumn/ winter 2020 show in Paris back in March. Monogrammed with the brand’s iconic interlocking C’s, the £330 tights, which come in black and white iterations and were styled with leather pirate boots at the show, are, like all Chanel stock, only available to buy in a Chanel boutique. But this hasn’t stopped them from becoming a major hit with the fashion set.

The British Fashion Council has confirmed that London Fashion Week will run from Thursday, September 17 to Tuesday, September 22.

Following on from June’s digital-only, gender neutral event, September’s activation will include both digital and physical activations, and the line-up will feature menswear designers like Bianca Saunders and Ahluwalia alongside womenswear designers that traditionally show in September.

During a time in which where we call home plays a crucial role in our lives, it was fitting that Dior’s Italian creative director should offer the house’s Cruise show as a tribute to her motherland.

Marco De Vincenzo recently celebrated the launch of his menswear collection and the 10th anniversary of his eponymous brand. A designer usually full of passion and enthusiasm, he had dark words regarding the future.

“The coronavirus emergency in Milan started during the autumn/winter 2020-21 fashion week. Buyers from all over the world were obviously concerned, so they left as quick as they could, never to return,” said De Vincenzo. “We booked just a few orders for next season, which means we might not be able to afford to produce them, since our suppliers request minimum quantities for fabrics and such.”

Now, Jimmy Choo, masters of the latter, is dipping its well-dressed toes into the former, with the launch of a capsule makeup collection.

Dropping into Harrods this month, the ‘Seduction Collection’ includes eight nail varnishes, ten lipsticks and a set of six concentrated fragrances, all inspired by different Choo designs.

The BFC Foundation COVID Crisis Fund will make £1,000,000 of emergency funds available to designer businesses, with a portion of the money also being allocated to students to "underpin the future generation of creative talent."

“Now more than ever, we are committed to supporting the businesses and people that make up our industry," Caroline Rush, CEO of the BFC, said. "With the BFC Foundation Covid Crisis Fund and the donations raised, our hope is to support those British businesses that need additional subsidies, beyond Government stimulus available, to address their most urgent challenges.”The BFC has raised the money through pooling the BFC talent support grants that would have traditionally been awarded to emerging brands for either early-stage showcasing support or business growth and promotion.

Mac Cosmetics has introduced a strict 'no-touch' policy in all of its UK stores today in a bid to crackdown on coronavirus.

A screenshot shared on Twitter showed an internal e-mail that had been sent to all Mac Cosmetics UK employees, imposing the measures which also require make-up artists in stores to not use their own brushes or “apply makeup on a customer”. 

The correspondence added that all makeover appointments had been cancelled and that while customers are still welcome to use samples provided in-store, they must use disposable applicators when doing so.
