Harvard student sues Ugandan President Museveni for blocking him on Twitter

A Harvard University student has sued Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni for blocking him on Twitter.

Mr Hillary Innocent Seguya Taylor, a Ugandan, also sued government spokesperson Ofwono Opondo and the police Chief Political Commissar Asan Kasingye, saying they too have blocked him from accessing their official Twitter accounts.

According to the story, she was caught and paraded in chains after she allegedly stole some items including noodles, from an orphanage owned by a church in a community in Anambra State.

"The woman in chains stole some items meant for the Motherless Babies Home from the Church." a witness wrote on Facebook.

IPOB is not Ohaneze or PANDEF that bow to threats - Nnamdi Kanu replies Junaid Mohammed

Nnamdi Kanu on Wednesday August 28, reacted to Second Republic lawmaker, Junaid Mohammed's threat of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) paying with its blood if they attack President Buhari abroad. 

Firing back at Junaid Mohammed over the threat, the leader of the proscribed IPOB group stated that the elder statesman was talking like a ‘captured bandit in police custody’. Nnamdi further affirmed that IPOB does not bow to threats like other socio-cultural groups which include Ohaneze Ndigbo and PANDEF.

Facebook tightens rules for political adverts ahead of US elections

Facebook has announced that it would tighten its rules for political ad spending ahead of the 2020 US elections, notably by requiring more information about who is paying for campaign messages.  

The move is the latest by Facebook to crack down on efforts to deceive or manipulate users after the social network admitted lapses in the 2016 election. While Facebook has already begun requiring political advertisers to provide identification to confirm who they are and where they are located, the new policy requires more information to show they are registered with the US government.

Sacked workers in Delta State protest as Governor Okowa offers automatic employment to 14 choristers

The automatic employment recently granted to 14 choristers by Delta Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa, to celebrate the 28th anniversary of the state’s creation, has triggered crisis among some sacked workers.  

Over 3,000 sacked workers, including the 650 Delta Line Transport Company staff, under the Amalgamated Union of Public Corporations, Civil Service Technical and Recreational Services Employees and the 3,000 members of the Association that was suspended in 2015 have cried foul.    

The governor had, during an inter-denominational thanksgiving service to mark the anniversary at the Government House, Asaba, announced the automatic employment to 14 distinguished choristers.

Meek Mill no longer on probation after he pleaded guilty to gun charge to end 12-year case

Meek Mill's 12-year long case has ended after he pleaded guilty to a misdemeanour gun charge in a plea deal.

The US rapper was granted a new trial in July because judges ruled that his original trial in 2008 had credibility issues with the arresting officer. The judge in the new trial decided the two years Meek Mill had already spent in prison was enough.

French football club, Nice has been purchased by British billionaire Sir Jim Ratcliffe, who is the chairman, and chief executive officer of the Ineos chemicals group.

The 66-year-old chemical engineer turned financier and industrialist who has an £18.664 billion fortune was on Monday (August 26) given the all-clear to seal the reported £91m deal with Nice's Sino-American owners by the French Competition Authority.

Heart break: Nigerian man allegedly killed in South Africa by police officers

46-year-old Pius Ezekwem, a Nigerian businessman residing in the Eastern Cape Province in South Africa has been killed.

According to reports, Pius who ran a chain of bed and breakfast guest houses, was picked up by eight police officers at a Nigerian eatery last weekend and was forcefully taken to his home for a search and interrogation.

An argument between Pius and the South African police officers degenerated so fast that a gun shot was fired, leading to Pius' death. Pius was married to a South African who was present at the scene of the incident.  He reportedly asked the policemen to kill him in his house as he would not follow them to where they wanted to take him to. Sadly, the policemen allegedly killed him in the presence of his family.

Alex Housden, during a TV show segment about a gorilla, commented about a gorilla at Oklahoma City’s zoo by telling black colleague Jason Hackett: "Kinda looks like you."

Her racist statement elicited a backlash as people called for her to be fired from KOCO-TV,  and she was forced to apologise the following day.

Governor Umahi of Ebonyi State sack Commissioner for information, Ken Uhuo

Governor Dave Umahi of Ebonyi State has sacked the Commissioner for information and orientation, Ken Uhuo, according to a statement by Dr Kenneth Ugbala, Secretary to the State Government (SSG).

Ugbala said Ken Uhuo was dismissed because he lacked direction in the performance of his official duties.  

“The state government wishes to thank Uhuo for services rendered so far as commissioner”, said Ugbala, adding that he may re-evaluate and place Uhuo in another position fit and suitable for him.
