FG summons South African High Commissioner over xenophobic attacks on Nigerians

Geoffrey Onyeama, Nigeria's Minister of Foreign Affairs has summoned the South African High Commissioner to Nigeria, Bobby Moroe, over the xenophobic attacks on Nigerians in South Africa.  

The envoy is expected to meet with the minister by 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday. According to a senior official official of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kimiebi Ebenfa;

“I am directed to inform you that th  Minister of Foreign Affairs has summoned the High Commissioner of South Africa for a meeting this morning by 11. The meeting was confirmed a few minutes ago.”

Nigerian IG celebrity, Hushpuppi has taken responsibility for the number of Nigerian celebrities now speaking up about the Xenophobic attacks in South Africa.

This morning, Hushpuppi angrily lashed out at Nigerian celebrities who were yet to speak up against the recent Xenophobic attacks against Nigerians 

Now, he says 'I have been given a platform by the people, it’s only right that I do the right thing with it to help and save the lives of the people'.

Former vice president, Atiku Abubakar has joined millions of Nigerians in condemning the current wave of Xenophobic attacks in South Africa.

Atiku in a Tweet this morning said, 'Reported attacks against Nigerians in South Africa is unacceptable and stands condemned.

Nigerian Embassy in South Africa "shuts its doors on Nigerian victims of Xenophobia in South Africa"

 

Nigerians in South Africa who are victims of the renewed xenophobic attack have accused the Nigerian Embassy of shutting its gates on them when they went there for help and protection.

According to Nigerians in South Africa, some victims of the attack who visited the Nigerian Embassy were denied entry into the property. As a result, Nigerians had to remain in their homes, afraid for their lives and unsure if they would be the next victims as there have been threats of more attacks.

On Monday, Spetember 2nd, the Supreme Court criticised President Buhari for using a senior state counsel at the Ministry of Justice, Abdullahi Abubakar, for his private election-related trial.  

The apex court criticised Buhari for using lawyers paid by government during his election tribunal hearings. The Peoples Democratic Party and its presidential candidate during the 2019 election, Atiku Abubakar, are challenging Buhari’s victory at the election tribunal.

Nigerian rapper, Ycee and South African hip pop star, AKA are going at each other on Twitter following the recent xenophobic attacks on Nigerians and other nationals in South Africa. 

During the exchange between the pair, Ycee had share old tweets of AKA reacting angrily after Nigeria knocked out South Africa from the 2019 African Cup of Nations in Egypt.

Social justice advocate outlines steps the Nigerian government should take in reaction to the xenophobic attack on Nigerians living in South Africa

An advocate of social justice has outlined steps the Nigerian government can take to address the xenophobic attack on Nigerians living in South Africa.

Nimah A, who is a student of international politics, tweeted: 

1. Airlift your citizens from SA
2. Send a letter to recall your country's ambassador 
3. Close your embassy/mission within South Africa 
4. Summon the South African ambassador to Nigeria
5. Send a notice of expulsion to SA's president and ambassador till the matter is  resolved

Breaking: South African government denies xenophobic attacks

South African government have denied reports that their citizens are carrying out Xenophobic attacks on Nigerians.

The country’s High Commissioner to Nigeria, Bobby Monroe, made this known when he met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama, in Abuja this morning.

Speaking at a media briefing after the meeting with Onyeama, Monroe said the recent attacks were not ''xenophobic'' in nature but are rather mere  ‘sporadic acts of violence’.

Xenophobia: Enough is enough, other Africans are not your enemies - Beverly Naya tells South Africans

Beverly Naya has also joined the social media campaign against xenophobic attacks carried out by South Africans against Nigerians. 

The actress in her post directed to South Africans, stated that other Africans are not the country's problem. According to her, the continent will be a better place when South Africans realize this. 

Beverly also urged everyone to speak up against the attack and also pay less attention on who isn't part of the campaign. She wrote;

Popular South African performer Zodwa Wabantu, has called out citizens of her country for the xenophobic attack on African Nationals living in their country.

The pantless dancer, in a video, said the recent attack on African Nationals and Nigerians living in South Africa isn't xenophobia but about poverty. According to her, lazy South Africans are "taking things from people who are really doing something about their lives."

She called out the South Africans destroying and looting businesses owned by African nationals and said the attack has to stop.

President Buhari breaks silence on recent xenophobic attacks on Nigeria, sends special envoy to South Africa

President Buhari has reacted to the recent Xenophobic attacks on Nigerians in  South Africa.

A statement released by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina today September 3rd, says President Buhari has sent a Special Envoy to South Africa to convey to President Cyril Ramaphosa, his concerns over reported attacks on Nigerian citizens and property in the former apartheid enclave since August 29th.

#Xenophobia: Vector educates AKA over his insensitive comment as Perruzi tells the SA rapper to 'shut the f**k up'

Some Nigerian artistes are unimpressed with the manner at which South African rapper, AKA has been reacting as regards the recent xenophobic attacks on Nigerians and other foreign nationals in his country. 

While replying a Nigerian Twitter user who challenged him over the attacks, AKA replied: 'Cancel us then. We’ll stay here in Sandton and suffer.'

His comment angered the likes of  Nigerian rapper, Vector and singer Perruzi, who told him to shut the f**k up...

Several foreign shop owners in Jeppestown South Africa, are still counting the cost of the destruction left behind in the aftermath of their shops being shattered on Sunday night  September 1.

Two car dealerships in Kaal and Jules streets were among those damaged, and over 50 cars were burnt at night.

Kevin Hart is now in stable condition after undergoing a successful surgery following a car crash that left him with “major back injuries.”

According to TMZ, doctors completed a successful back surgery on Kevin on Sunday evening. The publication also added that the comedian is expected to remain in the hospital for at least a couple of days while he recovers.

Supreme Court strikes out suit seeking the disqualification of President Buhari in the 2019 presidential election over alleged perjury

The Supreme Court has struck out the suit seeking the disqualification of President Muhammadu Buhari in the 2019 presidential election over alleged perjury.    

The suit was filed by Kalu Kalu, Labaran Ismail and Hassy El-Kuris, all legal practitioners. Delivering judgment, the Justice Mary Odili-led panel of five justices held that the case was statute barred and therefore dismissed.

The justices during the introduction of appearances wondered why Abdullahi Abubakar, State Counsel from the Federal Ministry of Justice will be representing a private individual. Abubakar had announced his appearance for the first respondent (General Muhammadu Buhari (Rtd) in the suit. They warned him to desist from such act of using public office to defend a private litigation.

Former Minister of Education Oby Ezekwesili on Monday September 2, waded into Xenophobic attack launched against Nigerians in South Africa. 

Recall LIB reported earlier that properties includings cars which belong to Nigerians in the country, was set on fire by South Africans. Shops belonging to Nigerians was also looted by South Africans as captured in a viral video. 

Oby Ezekwesili in her tweets addressed to both President Cyril Ramaphosa and President Buhari, decried the attacks in the country. According to the former President candidate, the maiming and killing of citizens of Nigeria and other African countries in South Africa dishonors everything our collective fight for freedom was about.

We have arrested 1,154 suspected kidnappers in 2019 - Nigerian Police

Mohammed Adamu, the Inspector General of Police says 1,154 suspected kidnappers were arrested across the country between January and August.    

Adamu, who made the disclosure on Monday, September 2nd during the Southwest Geopolitical Zone Security Summit held in Ibadan, said that 147 of the arrests were made in the Southwest.  

Arsenal midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan joins Roma on a 12-month loan (Photos)

Arsenal midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan has joined Roma a 12-month loan deal.

Mkhitaryan arrived in Rome on Monday morning (September 2) to finalise the deal and underwent a medical with the Serie A side. He will wear No.77 shirt for the Italian club. 

According to Sky in Italy, Roma will pay Arsenal a loan fee of €3m (£2.7m) with the deal not expected to include an option to buy.
