Lipstick Haul: The Shades I Chose to Level Up My Look This Season.

Lipstick can completely make or break a look. It may be one of the smallest products in our makeup bags, but it has the power to transform our faces, change the mood of an outfit and instantly make us feel more polished. A beautiful lipstick can turn a simple white shirt into a fashion statement, add confidence to a little black dress and make even a minimal makeup look feel intentional.

This season, I wanted to refresh my collection with colours that feel rich, elegant and wearable. I was not looking for several lipsticks that appeared almost identical. I wanted a carefully chosen lipstick wardrobe containing the essential shades I could wear for work, weekends, special occasions and those moments when I simply want to feel extra glamorous.

My seasonal edit includes classic red, deep oxblood, vibrant berry, warm rose, caramel nude, chocolate nude and dramatic plum. Each colour has its own personality, yet every shade can work beautifully with the clothes, accessories and makeup looks I already love.

A lipstick haul should never be about purchasing colours that will remain untouched at the bottom of a drawer. The real excitement comes from finding shades that make you want to get dressed, experiment and see yourself differently. I wanted every lipstick in this collection to serve a purpose and bring something special to my beauty routine.

Classic red was the first essential. Red lipstick is timeless because it brings instant confidence to the face. It has survived every passing beauty trend and continues to feel powerful, feminine and glamorous. When I wear a red lip, I do not need complicated eye makeup or excessive contouring. Fresh skin, softly defined brows, mascara and a strong red lip are enough to create an unforgettable look.

The secret is finding the right red for your complexion. Some women glow in cooler blue-toned reds, while others look radiant in warm tomato, brick or orange-red shades. The perfect red should brighten your face before you have even finished applying the rest of your makeup. If it makes you stand taller and look at yourself twice in the mirror, you may have found the one.

Oxblood brings a deeper, moodier version of red into the collection. It feels sophisticated, expensive and perfect for the colder season. This is the shade I imagine wearing with chocolate tailoring, a camel coat, gold jewellery or an elegant cream knit. It can appear dramatic, but when applied carefully and paired with clean skin, it looks beautifully refined.

For a softer oxblood look, I can press the lipstick lightly onto my lips and blend it with my finger to create a stained effect. For evening, I can use a coordinating lip pencil and apply the colour fully for maximum depth and impact. One lipstick can create several different moods depending on how it is applied.

Berry is the playful shade in my edit. It brings brightness to the face without feeling as traditional as red. Berry lipstick looks especially beautiful with neutral outfits because it becomes the colour that lifts the entire look. It can also complement burgundy, navy, plum, charcoal and winter white.

A berry shade can be worn sheer during the day or layered for evening intensity. It has enough colour to feel special but remains incredibly wearable. On days when I want my makeup to look fresh and feminine, berry may be the first lipstick I reach for.

Warm rose is the shade that quietly works with everything. It is softer than red, livelier than nude and polished enough for almost any occasion. A flattering rose lipstick can become the beauty equivalent of a favourite handbag—the dependable piece that always makes sense.

I would wear warm rose with a tailored work outfit, casual denim, a floral dress or a relaxed weekend look. It enhances the natural lip colour without disappearing completely, making it perfect for women who want definition without a dramatic finish.

Caramel nude brings softness and warmth to the collection. Nude lipstick should never make the face look dull or washed out. The right shade should enhance the lips while complementing the skin’s undertone.

For deeper complexions, a caramel nude with warm brown, peach or golden undertones can look especially beautiful. A slightly deeper lip liner can create definition and prevent the colour from blending too closely into the skin. The liner should be softly blended inward so there is no harsh ring around the lips.

Caramel nude is ideal when I want the eyes, outfit or accessories to become the focus. It pairs effortlessly with bronzed makeup, golden eyeshadow and softly glowing skin. It is understated without becoming invisible.

Chocolate nude is richer and more dramatic. This beautiful brown shade feels modern, confident and wonderfully luxurious. Depending on the finish, it can appear soft and creamy, glossy and glamorous or deep and editorial.

Chocolate lipstick looks stunning with warm neutrals, animal-inspired prints, gold jewellery and monochromatic brown outfits. It also works beautifully with blush pink, cream and unexpected shades such as cobalt blue. For a polished tonal look, I would pair it with softly bronzed cheeks and warm brown eyeshadow.

Plum completes the collection with mystery and drama. It is the lipstick for evenings, special occasions and moments when I want my makeup to make a statement. Deep plum can look incredibly elegant with black, burgundy, emerald, navy and silver.

Dark lipstick requires a little more preparation because uneven edges are more visible. I begin by gently exfoliating the lips and applying a light balm. After allowing the moisture to absorb, I define the shape with lip pencil before applying the lipstick in thin layers. Blotting between applications helps the colour last longer and creates a smoother finish.

The formula matters just as much as the shade. Matte lipstick offers strong colour and staying power, but it should not leave the lips feeling painfully dry. Satin finishes provide richness with a softer appearance, while gloss adds volume and catches the light beautifully.

I like having a mixture of finishes because the same colour can feel completely different depending on its texture. A matte red looks bold and commanding, while a glossy red feels glamorous and playful. A satin nude appears polished, while a sheer nude balm creates an effortless everyday finish.

Preparing the lips is one of the most important parts of wearing lipstick well. Even the most expensive formula will not look its best on very dry or flaky lips. Gentle exfoliation removes loose skin, while a nourishing balm creates a smoother surface.

However, applying lipstick immediately over a thick layer of balm can cause it to move. I allow the balm to absorb first and gently remove any excess before beginning. This small step helps the pigment apply more evenly and last longer.

Lip liner is another powerful tool. It defines the mouth, improves symmetry and helps prevent strong colours from bleeding beyond the natural lip line. It can also change the character of a lipstick. A brown liner can deepen a nude, a berry pencil can intensify plum and a red liner can make a classic scarlet appear cleaner and more precise.

The goal is not to draw an entirely different mouth. I prefer to follow the natural shape of my lips, making small adjustments only where necessary. Soft blending creates a more modern finish than a sharply visible outline.

To make lipstick last, I apply the first layer, blot gently and then add a second thin coat. If I want extra precision, I use a lip brush around the edges. For a glamorous finish, I place a little gloss only at the centre of the lips rather than covering the entire mouth.

Lipstick should also work in harmony with the outfit. When I wear a bold red or plum lip, I often keep my clothes clean and structured. A white shirt, black dress, camel coat or chocolate suit gives the lipstick space to stand out.

With a nude or warm rose lip, I can be more adventurous with colour, pattern and accessories. The lipstick completes the outfit without competing with it. This is why I think about my makeup and wardrobe together rather than treating them as separate decisions.

There is also something deeply personal about choosing lipstick. We are often drawn to shades that reflect our mood or the energy we want to carry. Red says confidence. Rose feels romantic. Berry appears joyful. Chocolate looks grounded and sophisticated. Plum brings mystery, while nude communicates quiet elegance.

Some mornings, we choose the lipstick that matches how we feel. On other days, we choose the colour that creates the feeling we need. A confident shade can become a tiny form of armour before a meeting, event or important conversation.

My seasonal lipstick haul is ultimately about having options. I want the freedom to look soft one day and dramatic the next. I want shades that complement my everyday routine but can also transform me for a special evening.

I do not believe we need hundreds of lipsticks to create variety. Seven carefully selected shades can produce an entire wardrobe of looks, especially when we experiment with liners, glosses and different application techniques.

The real secret is choosing colours you will genuinely wear. A shade may look beautiful online or on someone else, but it must make sense for your complexion, personality and lifestyle. Test lipstick in natural light whenever possible, and allow yourself to walk away from a trend that does not make you feel wonderful.

Beauty should never be about forcing yourself to look like everyone else. It should help you become a more expressive and confident version of yourself.
