You have arrived, unpacked the dress and opened your jewellery pouch. Somehow, every necklace has become attached to every earring.
A little separation before departure can save a surprising amount of frustration. The aim is to pack the pieces you will wear and give each one a protected place.
Plan jewellery with the outfits
Lay out your travel outfits and choose accessories alongside them. One pair of everyday earrings and one dressier option may do more useful work than a pouch full of possibilities.
Photograph the combinations if that helps you remember what you intended. Then leave behind the pieces that do not belong to a planned outfit.
Separate fine chains
Fasten necklaces before packing and place each in its own suitable compartment or soft pouch. Avoid putting several loose chains together. A padded jewellery roll with separate sections can make the contents easier to see.
Do not force delicate jewellery into a tight space, and avoid improvised methods that could scratch or strain it.
Keep pairs together
Secure earrings in a purpose-made holder or individual compartment. Keep backs with their earrings. Give pieces with sharp edges enough separation that they cannot scratch softer surfaces nearby.
Be realistic about valuables
Consider leaving irreplaceable or sentimental jewellery at home. Keep the pieces you take secure and close during the journey. If relying on insurance, check the actual policy conditions and limits before travelling.
Unpack into one place
At your destination, choose a secure storage location rather than scattering jewellery across the bathroom and bedside table. Before departure, check the same locations again.
A beautifully edited jewellery selection makes getting dressed easier. You spend less time untangling chains and more time enjoying the evening you packed them for.
Do you pack jewellery by outfit, or bring your favourites and decide later?
